NORTHAMPTONSHIRE PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATIONS
Below are a few of my favourite photography locations in Northamptonshire.
I thought it would be useful to break down these locations and explain why they are on my favourites list, so you can decide where suits you and your family best.
I’m always getting asked for recommendations on where to go and what to wear, so I thought it might be a useful resource for your future photo shoots.
These locations are all public spaces apart from Evenly Wood Gardens where permission has been granted. Please check out my gallery here for more ideas.
PUBLIC SPACES
The Mount in Towcester – Free
One of my favourite photography locations, this gem is nestled in the roman town of Towcester.
The Mount has plenty of scope for different backdrops in one place.
Best for year-round photographs, with the main locations being the bridge, tree stumps, the mount steps, the church doors, and plenty of space with the water meadows behind.
Great for toddlers who don’t want to walk too far.
Stoke Bruene – Free
The beautiful canal at Stoke Bruene is a lovely location for your family photo shoot.
It has a woodland walk, old buildings, bridges and locks that can be used as different backdrops all a small distance away from each other.
Probably best for Spring, Autumn and Winter as Summer can be busy and hard to work around the crowds.
The Tove Wetland Park, Towcester – Free
Just outside Towcester town, this is best for autumn photo shoots.
The wetland park has the best foliage for that autumnal colour we all love.
Other backdrops include the ponds, the viewing platform, a beautiful weeping willow, the bridge and a trim trail for the kids
FORESTS AND WOODLAND
Salcey Forest – £4.50 parking
Established woodland on the outskirts of Northampton, this is best in autumn due to the wonderful Autumnal colours from the trees.
Salcey also has a tree top walk and bridges, fallen trees, a den like area and lovely café and play area for after your photography adventure.
Everdon Stubbs – Free
Ancient forest between Northampton and Daventry, this is best for springtime and the vast swathes of bluebells.
The far side has fields of dandelions and a beautiful view of the rolling Northampton countryside.
There are plenty of fallen logs, tree stumps, rope swings and other woodland backdrops to use here.
Harlestone Firs – Free
On the outskirts of Northampton this forest lives by its name and is full of firs and tree lined avenues.
This is best for winter photo shoots as the firs are evergreen and unlike other woodlands produces foliage all through the year.
There are some pretty big puddles too for little jumpers, just makes sure you remember the wellies.
MANOR HOUSE GARDENS
Evenly Wood Gardens – £6pp young kids are free
Is at the top of my all-time favourite photography locations in Northamptonshire!
Evenly Wood gardens is a private family owned gardens with lots of established trees, bushes and flowers.
It has something different to see at each time of the year.
Plenty of colour, a pretty steam and bridge, tree seats and a lovely onsite cafe to name just a few things that make this place great.
Wildgoose Photographics always makes sure we have the relevant permission to work at this location, so we can all hold a comfortable and relaxed photo session.
Delapre Abbey – Free
Pretty much in the middle of Northampton town, the Abbey which has recently been restored has some beautiful grounds.
Best for all year-round backdrops, including a tree lined path, lake, sunken pond with steps and a walled garden.
This location has lovely colour in the spring, summer and autumn months.
Redmoor Towcester – Free
On the outskirts of Towcester the new luxury Redmoor estate is a lovely setting for a family photo shoot.
A very quiet location nr Besses Lane it has some beautiful picturesque backdrops without the hustle and bustle of the more public places available.
