Autumn, is by far my most favourite time of the year!
My friends and family think I am crazy, but I can’t help getting excited by the dark nights and colder air.
We are lucky enough to have had a great Summer, but I am now ready for big fluffy jumpers, sweetly scented candles and movie nights cuddled up with the kids.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the summer with its warm, light evenings and the fact I can just slip on a dress and head out the door.
I also like the Spring for the green leaves budding and of course the infamous bluebell shoots.
I love Winter for the family time at Christmas and if we are lucky the like last year, the crisp white snow days.
BUT, Autumn is my season, the season I am most happy in.
If you are struggling to come to terms with the end of Summer and can’t see past the long dark days ahead.
Here are a few reasons why this time of the year is my favourite.
- Autumn Leaves
It may be turning cold outside, but mother nature does her best by providing us with beautiful warm tones on her trees.
The world turns a beautiful colour and kids love nothing better than throwing the fallen leaves into the air.
- Conker Hunting
I have always been fascinated by these wonderful things.
When you find a big fresh one and peel the outer skin, to find a gorgeous wooden coloured nut inside.
They have the most amazing patterns AND if you stick them in the corners of your room they keep those pesky spiders away.
What’s not to love?
- Wearing Jumpers.
I love the fact this time of year you can start to eat more of what you want, instead of what you should.
Jumpers hide a multitude of mummy sins, they are comfy, warm and if you are feeling blue put on a bright one to make you feel better.
- Hot Chocolate and Cuddles
One of our favourite family Autumn/Winter pastimes is snuggling up on the sofa together, with hot chocolate and popcorn while watching a movie.
We don’t tend to have as many cuddles in the Summer, as I am pottering around in the garden or it’s just too hot.
- Winter Food
I do love a good stew, curry or roast and we just don’t tend to eat these dishes in the Summer.
I can’t wait to find some new winter warmers to try this year. If you have any delicious recipes you want to pass on, drop us a link below.
- Smelly Candles
Anyone who knows me knows that I love my smelly candles and melts.
There is nothing better than closing the curtains and lighting a nice candle to enhance your wellbeing.
- Autumn Walks
There is nothing nicer than popping on your macs and wellies and getting out into the fresh air.
It is such a beautiful time of the year and it would be a shame to stay cooped up indoors.
Why not find a nice pub with a roaring fire to treat yourselves at the end?
- Halloween
If your kids are anything like my kids, Halloween is becoming as big as Christmas.
My two have already started making their outfits (blog post to come.)
This also gives them something to focus on, on the run up.
I reckon my two will need a few weeks to finish their elaborate designs.
- Early Nights
I am not a late-night person by any stretch, but I do stay up much later in the Summer!
In the Autumn and Winter, I am more than happy to take a good book up to bed early, have a hot bath and snuggle down.
- Autumn Family Photo Shoots
You can’t beat an Autumn family shoot.
As much as I love the bluebells in Spring, Autumn is by far my favourite time to photograph families.
I know a lot of people think they look better in a summer dress, but you can’t beat a bobble hat and wellies for a cool print on your wall!
