Have you ever taken the time to write down your work story?

Reflecting on your starting point and your current position can help you determine your future goals. By recognizing what you have learned and how much you have grown, you can gain clarity moving forward.
Writing down my work story has shown me I have an entrepreneurial spirit, resilience, adaptability, and plenty of transferable skills.
Social Media Marketing And SEO
  • 1989 Hairdressing – I left school, having no idea what I wanted to be when I was older. I wasn’t academic and I knew I had to work, so I chose something I knew there were plenty of jobs in. Something where I could use my creative side. It was never supposed to be a lifelong career, but it taught me to listen to a client’s problems and help solve them!

  • 1993 Travelling – Once I had qualified as a hairdresser I travelled for 4 years, spending summers in Corfu and winters in Austria. This taught me independence, problem solving and determination.

  • 1996 Mobile Hairdressing – This seemed to be the logical answer to coming back to the UK. I still knew it wasn’t supposed to be my lifelong career but sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward.

  • 1998 F1 Photographer – This was pure luck, passion, and being in the right place at the right time. I learned that sometimes it’s who you know not what you know that counts.

  • 2002 Hairdressing – My partner at the time moved away for work so I applied for a job at Toni & Guy so I could go with him. This taught me to adapt to change and that no matter how long you have been in an industry it is good to re-train and refresh.

  • 2009 Full-time mum – I like many, class parenting as a full time job. The long hours, sleepless nights worrying, and having to learn a whole different skill set can be overwhelming. But it teaches you patience, practicality, and a different kind of problem solving.

  • 2010 Blogger/Influencer – I was a single mum by the time my twins turned 1, I desperately wanted to work but also needed to look after my kids. Starting a parenting blog gave the girls and I so many experiences that I would never have been able to afford. I got to work with some great companies and started on the journey that has led to today. I learned how to run a website, about SEO and keywords, how to write engaging content. Also how to take better photos, and how to gain social media and website followers.

  • 2014 Photographer – I started what I call my main business, the one I am passionate about 10 years ago. I started with website and social media knowledge from blogging, I had the basics of photography from blogging and the brief F1 photography in 1998. I had all the building blocks to start a great business, and I did just that.

  • 2023 Gardening – Due to Covid, the financial crisis, and the fact photography is a luxury product I decided I had to run something else besides my photography business to bridge the financial gap. But, with my previous experience, I knew exactly where and how to market to get instant results. Within 2 weeks I was fully booked!

I’m now doing a coaching course so I can share all the knowledge I have gained, to help others navigate the obstacles I’ve overcome quicker and easier.
